At DASM, we have set up a standard-compliant reverberation room to support specialized acoustic tests, enabling the study of sound characteristics in materials and products.

Acoustic Reverberation Room: Exploring Features and Applications in Acoustic Research
An acoustic reflection room is a special space primarily used in acoustic research to test materials and the acoustic environment. Unlike an absorption room, a reflection room works in the opposite way where all sound energy is reflected back from the wall surfaces, typically made of hard concrete. This creates a unique environment to study and evaluate the acoustic properties of materials.

Acoustic Properties of the Reflection Room
An acoustic reflection room is designed to prevent sound absorption. When sound enters the room, the sound energy is not absorbed but instead reflects completely from the hard surfaces of the room. As a result, sound lasts longer within the room and only dissipates as it travels through the air (the sound transmission medium). The reverberation time (RT) is a key factor when measuring the acoustic characteristics of a reflection room.

Design Standards for Acoustic Reflection Rooms
According to ISO 354 standards, the minimum volume of a reflection room must be 150 m³ to ensure accurate measurement of reverberation time. However, some studies allow for smaller room volumes and still yield precise results. A notable example is the Alpha Cabin, a miniature model of a reflection room with only a 1m³ size, developed by GAUS.

Applications of Acoustic Reflection Rooms
Acoustic reflection rooms play an essential role in determining the absorption coefficient of materials, whether it’s a sheet of material or a complex-shaped structure. Through research conducted in the reflection room, acoustic experts can accurately assess the reflection and absorption capabilities of various materials, which is then applied to fields like recording studios, theater acoustics, and buildings that require special sound control.
