The Institute of Development and Application for Sound Materials (DASM) – Vietnam’s leading organization in acoustic testing, measurement, and consulting – has recently conducted Sound Transmission Class (STC) testing for movable partition systems at VinPalace Convention & Event Center (Vin Cổ Loa).

All measurements were performed in accordance with international standards ISO 16283 and ISO 717, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and high technical reliability.

The role of acoustic testing in large-scale projects

As modern projects such as conference centers, exhibition halls, and event venues increasingly focus on both technical performance and user experience, sound insulation efficiency has become a key factor in assessing construction quality.

A movable partition system, constructed with soundproofing and sound-absorbing materials, must not only ensure operational flexibility but also deliver optimal acoustic insulation. This helps prevent sound transmission between adjacent areas, maintaining privacy and acoustic comfort for all events.

Therefore, STC testing is an essential step in the commissioning and quality verification of high-end architectural projects.

DASM – Vietnam’s pioneer in acoustic testing and measurement

The Institute of Development and Application for Sound Materials (DASM) is the first and only laboratory in Vietnam accredited by the Bureau of Accreditation (BoA) for VILAS certification, meeting international standards in both technical competence and quality management systems.

This certification ensures that every measurement, test, and acoustic assessment conducted by DASM complies with global standards, recognized for accuracy and reliability.

Moreover, DASM is a trusted partner of numerous major contractors, design consultants, and investors nationwide, having successfully conducted hundreds of acoustic insulation, absorption, and vibration testing projects for conference centers, theaters, 5-star hotels, commercial complexes, industrial facilities, and professional studios.

STC testing for movable partition systems at VinPalace convention & event center

Recently, DASM was selected to carry out Sound Transmission Class (STC) testing for movable partition systems at VinPalace Convention & Event Center, one of Vietnam’s largest and most modern event complexes.

This project involved high technical requirements, as movable partitions are used to flexibly divide large halls into smaller event or conference spaces.

The testing was performed on-site (field measurement) using state-of-the-art acoustic equipment, periodically calibrated according to international standards to ensure accuracy and transparency.

All tests followed the ISO 16283 standard (Field Measurement of Sound Insulation in Buildings and of Building Elements) and the ISO 717 standard (Rating of Sound Insulation in Buildings and of Building Elements).

Consequently, DASM’s test results accurately reflect the real-world acoustic performance of the structure and serve as a reliable technical basis for contractors, consultants, and investors in inspection, evaluation, and quality improvement.

ISO 16283 and ISO 717 – International Assurance of Acoustic Testing Quality

In the field of building acoustics, ISO 16283 and ISO 717 are considered the most important technical standards for assessing the sound insulation performance of building elements such as walls, partitions, doors, floors, and ceilings.

ISO 16283 defines the field measurement procedures, simulating actual in-use conditions to provide accurate sound insulation results between rooms.

ISO 717 specifies the rating and interpretation methods, converting measurement data into standardized indices such as STC (Sound Transmission Class) for easy comparison with design requirements.

By applying both standards simultaneously, DASM demonstrates its technical professionalism, international competence, and contribution to advancing Vietnam’s acoustic testing industry to global standards.

Professional acoustic testing workflow – precision in every detail

To ensure the highest reliability, DASM adheres to a strict and consistent testing workflow:

On-site survey to identify wall configuration, spatial conditions, and appropriate sound source setup.

Installation of specialized acoustic instruments, including reference sound sources, precision microphones, signal analyzers, and calibration systems.

Testing across multiple frequencies, simulating real-world acoustic ranges during actual use.

Data analysis using professional software to calculate STC values and compare them with design specifications.

Comprehensive technical report preparation, including raw data, charts, measurement photos, and expert commentary.

Each measurement is carried out by DASM’s experienced acoustic engineers, ensuring safety, accuracy, and adherence to project schedules.

Benefits of conducting STC testing in construction projects

Performing STC measurements offers numerous benefits for both contractors and investors:

+Provides accurate, data-driven evaluation of sound insulation performance, beyond theoretical estimates.

+ Identifies acoustic leaks or structural weaknesses, helping improve construction quality.

+ Ensures compliance with international acoustic standards, enhancing project value and credibility.

+Delivers transparent technical documentation for commissioning, handover, or independent verification.

Thus, STC testing by DASM is not just a technical service—it is a comprehensive quality assurance solution for modern construction projects.
