Soundproofing Test of Remak® XPS Foam at DASM

In the field of acoustic research and certification, accuracy and objectivity are key factors in evaluating material quality. Recently, the Institute conducted an important test to measure the sound transmission loss coefficient of Remak® XPS foam using the impedance tube method. This verification is essential for Remak and its clients to gain a clearer understanding of the product’s soundproofing capability, while also reinforcing DASM’s expertise in advanced acoustic testing.

Testing Facilities and Method

The Institute utilizes an impedance tube, an advanced and internationally standardized measurement method, to evaluate the sound absorption and transmission properties of materials. The test is conducted in full compliance with ISO 10534-2 standards. The procedure is as follows:

Sample preparation: Cutting Remak® XPS foam to standard dimensions.

Mounting the sample into the impedance tube: Ensuring a tight fit to eliminate measurement errors.

Generating test signals: Using a calibrated sound source with multiple frequencies.

Data collection and analysis: Acoustic pressure sensors measure sound reflection and transmission levels.

Evaluation of results: Specialized software processes the data to generate an accurate report.

Test Results

Thanks to its state-of-the-art measurement system, the Institute has determined that Remak® XPS insulation foam has effective soundproofing capabilities, with a sound reduction index reaching up to 63.2dB at a frequency of 500Hz.

These results confirm that Remak® XPS foam has significant potential for applications in sound insulation for construction projects.
