In September 2023, the Institute for Development & Application of Acoustic Materials (DASM) carried out sound absorption testing (sound absorption capacity) and sound energy loss testing (sound insulation capacity) in accordance with EN ISO 10534-2:1998 and EN ISO 11654:1997 for the 50mm PU insulation panels of the Institute of Tropical Technology.

Overview of the customer and product 
 
Under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, the Institute of Tropical Technology is responsible for fundamental research, basic surveys, technology development and training of highly qualified human resources in tropical engineering and other related fields as prescribed by law.
 
In addition, the Institute carries out the following regular activities:
  • Studying the effects of Vietnam's tropical environment (atmosphere, sea, underground) on the degradation of materials (metals, non-metals, organic materials…) and protective coatings.
  • Studying methods for assessing material durability based on natural and accelerated test results, determining correlation coefficients, and developing procedures for predicting material service life under tropical climate conditions.
  • Researching and manufacturing protective materials durable in tropical climates (materials and production processes) for practical application, serving economic development, security and national defense…
  • Staff training: training doctoral and master's students and technical staff in chemistry, physics, materials science, environmental protection and the Institute's fields of activity.
  • Carrying out international cooperation projects on research and postgraduate training related to chemistry, physics, materials science and environmental protection.
 
At the customer's request for the 50mm PU foam product with metal sheet on both faces, the Institute for Development & Application of Acoustic Materials performed:
  • Sound absorption testing: test method per EN ISO 10534-2:1998 Acoustics – Determination of sound absorption coefficient in impedance tubes, and EN ISO 11654:1997 Acoustics – Rating of sound absorption of materials.
  • Sound energy loss testing: test method per EN ISO 10534-2:1998 Acoustics – Determination of sound energy loss in impedance tubes.
