In March 2023, the Institute for Development & Application of Acoustic Materials (DASM) carried out sound absorption testing (standards ASTM C423-17 and EN ISO 11654:1997) on the perforated acoustic barrier panel of Vinh Hung Trading – Consulting & Construction Joint Stock Company.
Overview of the Vinh Hung perforated acoustic barrier panel
With a perforated front face, PE wool fiber inside, 1.96 m long and 10 cm thick, the Vinh Hung perforated acoustic barrier panel forms noise barrier walls that meet current standards, minimizing noise levels affecting surrounding areas (densely populated areas, hospitals, schools, industrial zones…) while offering high aesthetic value. In addition, the noise barrier wall can shield against wind, improve drivers' concentration, and increase safety for people and vehicles on the road.
Noise barrier panels are made from materials able to absorb sound, perforated plates, etc., and prevent sound from being reflected back toward the source. The metal materials commonly used are galvanized steel or aluminum sheet with a thickness of 1.0~1.6 mm. Support posts and connecting details: typically shaped H-section steel such as H100, H125, H150… – depending on the structural conditions of each type of noise barrier wall.
Criterion for evaluating sound absorption: the Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) indicates the amount of sound energy absorbed by the noise barrier wall. For sound-absorbing walls, the NRC lies in the range of 0.6-0.9 (FHWA highway noise barrier design handbook).

The product has been applied in several typical projects such as: Ring Road 2 (Hanoi), Bach Dang Bridge (on the Hai Phong – Ha Long – Van Don – Mong Cai expressway, linking Quang Ninh and Hai Phong provinces), the Phap Van – Cau Gie expressway (Hanoi), the Ha Long – Van Don expressway (Quang Ninh)… etc.
The sound absorption test of the Vinh Hung perforated acoustic barrier panel was carried out in the Reverberation Room of the Institute for Development & Application of Acoustic Materials using the following methods:
- ASTM C423-17, Standard test method for sound absorption and sound absorption coefficients by the reverberation room method.
- EN ISO 11654:1997. Acoustics – Sound absorbers for use in buildings – Rating of sound absorption.
